Once again, I’ve survived the Battle of Revisions–always a strenuous process that starts with giving myself a day to pout and declare to myself that my way was the best way, and how dare anyone touch my precious verbiage? After that, common sense begins to creep in, and as I work through the various points in an editor’s revision letter, I realize she’s right on target, almost 100%, about what this book needs to be part of this line. After all, Steeple Hill Love Inspired has standards to maintain, so my book must live up to those standards. Even those revisions I have done mentally kicking and screaming have often turned out for the best, if comments received on these books are anything to go by.
I suspect very few writers don’t need at least a *little* editing. I’ve read those that didn’t get it–often by well-known bestsellers–and it’s beenĀ a painfulĀ experience.
Tomorrow I’ll put PICTURE OF AN OUTLAW in the mail to my editor, and pray that she agrees that I did a good job on the revisions. That’s just its working title, since the Powers That Be are still debating what its final title should be. I’ll take the rest of this week to catch up on my to-do list, which always gets long when I’m meeting a deadline or doing revisions. For the rest of this week, I won’t feel guilty for Not Writing. I’ll get my car’s oil changed, buy a wedding present and hopefully a dress to wear for this wedding, get a dog to the vet for needed immunizations and a health check up. Maybe the two longhaired dogs will even get brushed, and their nails trimmed! Maybe I’ll even get to READ. Hope springs eternal.
Meanwhile, I’d love to hear from you–”you” being non-spammers. Spammers, get a life. Your spams won’t show up because my webmistress was smart enough to use a program where I get to check first what goes on my blog responses. I’m glad she did. Why not write me and tell me what you’re reading, what movies you’ve seen? Any recommendations?
Blessings, Laurie Kingery
