Winter Wonderland

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

tracks-in-the-snow1The storm that swept through the midwest Friday and went on to bury Washington D.C. has left my little part of the world a winter wonderland. We have about ten inches of snow here, and thanks to my wonderful husband who shovels it by hand and our wonderful neighbor who frequently shows up to plow out our driveway with his truck, I can mostly just sit here and enjoy its beauty, rather than having to do the backbreaking work of shoveling it myself.  I had to work at the ER last night, so I had to get out and drive in it, but I really have to admit I find driving in snow something of an adventure. It’s as close to living on the edge as I really want to be. :) I’m aware that I probably wouldn’t like it at all if I’d ever had an accident because of the snow…

Thanks to a low census undoubtedly due to the weather, I was privileged to come home after only 8 hours last night, and got to experience the adventure again, along with the deep peace that driving along in the dark with the countryside all silver and white, with snowflakes swirling all around me. It didn’t get at all scary until I reached my own road, which hadn’t been blessed by the snowplow since the afternoon. Getting into the garage from the driveway, which had drifted over somewhat, was a challenge too, but I made it, so I said a prayer of thanks and went to bed early!

I’d really prefer the glories of spring, but as long as it must be winter, let it snow! Do you like the snow? Write and let me know.

Good Friday/This’n'that

Friday, April 10th, 2009

A blessed Good Friday to you all. Let us never forget what Jesus did for us on this day.

Four nights off has passed like lightning. It’s a cold rainy day–I’m soooo tired of wearing my winter parka! I want to wash it, hang it up in the closet and forget about it till November!

I’m not going to get much writing done today because I have to leave in a few minutes to go get my highlights done again. Seems like only yesterday I had just finished my last book and was getting them done. I bemoan the time spent in the process but the results are worth it.

I just got my book to review blog for Waterbrook by UPS. HIGHER HOPE by Robert Whitlow–looks good and is book 2 of a series about a female lawyer. If it’s good, I’ll have to find book 1, I guess. Watch for the review.

This time next week I’ll be excited about leaving for Texas. Meanwhile, wish I knew what the plans are for my birthday…

My Crocuses are up!!!

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

The bulbs are coming up!MY CROCUSES ARE UP!!!! I know these are daffodils, not crocus, but I didn’t find a picture of those in my digital camera files, and I’ve finally figured out how to put my pictures in my blog. It just makes me feel so good when the first sign that winter is coming to an end arrives. I can’t wait for warm weather!

Another sign is the beginning of daylight savings time which comes this weekend. I’m lucky to be working that night, so instead of losing an hour’s sleep, I’m getting paid for 12 hours and only work for 11! :)

Election day/fall musings

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

Just sitting here in my office watching the golden leaves fall from the maple framed by my office window, sometimes one at a time, sometimes several, sometimes all are trembling but none fall… Change is coming to the trees, and to our country as well. I went to vote this morning, and hope you did too, or will later today. Tonight I’ll be working at the E.R., so unfortunately I will probably be exposed to election returns all night long. I’d really prefer to rent a good movie, go to bed early, and forget about the whole thing….

I’m dillydallying, trying to figure out how to approach this dancing scene. Kudos to Steeple Hill for allowing our characters to dance now–it would be hard to imagine an after-the-barn-raising party without fiddling…and where there is music, there would naturally be dancing! But it’s the hero’s turn to have his point of view, and I just need to decide how to play it.

HILL COUNTRY CHRISTMAS’s release month is nearly over. If you haven’t found it yet, why not order online from eharlequin.com or one of the myriad of other online bookstores? Remember, Christmas is coming….! :)

In praise of my webmistress, fall days, COFW conference

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

Wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve blogged, what with one thing and another. I went to blog today and found my system was down with a “fatal error.” Thinking I’d been hacked, I sent off a panicked SOS to Webmistress Extraordinaire, Karen McCullough, and she had it fixed within minutes. Seems my version of Wordpress doesn’t play nicely with their security upgrade, so she reinstalled the old version. Thank you, Karen, for your prompt service!

The electronic woes continue. My printer apparently died while I was writing the other day–I wasn’t even printing, but I heart the sound it makes when I unplug the printer from the laptop. Only I wasn’t doing that. Apparently that’s when the printer went into cardiac arrest due to unknown causes. Sheesh! I’ve had it less than 2 years. HP, you used to make better stuff! My husband seems to feel it’s the power source and cord that’s at fault, so hopefully it’s an easy fix when the new ones I’ve ordered arrive. Fingers crossed!

On the plus side, though, it’s a glorious, brilliant fall day in central Ohio. The leaves aren’t turning yet, but there’s that hint in the air…

It’s going to be a busy weekend. Friday night and Saturday is the Central Ohio Fiction Writers’ Conference. Tomorrow noonish I pick up one of our conference speakers, my great longtime friend Mary Jo Putney, at the airport. We’re going to have lunch before I take her on to the conference hotel, which I’ll return to for the evening portion of the conference. I’ll report back on that! Then Sunday, I have half of my grandchildren, Michaela, Tristan, and Olivia for awhile–an all-too-rare treat!–while their mom, my daughter Dani, is at a Lamaze conference in Louisville. Seems Dani has discovered the joy of conferencing like her mom!
